In 2009, Google took an unusual but eco friendly step to maintain its headquarters in Mountain View, California. Instead of using noisy, gas powered lawnmowers, the company hired 200 goats to graze on the grass. According to The Star, the goats were brought in through a company called California Grazing and spent about a week trimming the fields while fertilizing the soil at the same time.

Google explained that the decision was part of its sustainability efforts. According to Unilad Tech, the goats provided a natural solution to vegetation management, reducing pollution and fire hazards while keeping the campus quiet. Employees even enjoyed seeing the animals around, which added a unique atmosphere to the workplace. The practice continued in later years, with Google occasionally rehiring goats to manage vegetation around its campus.
